Ohio Governor John Kasich has dropped out of the presidential race with lack of traction to catch up to Republican front-runner Donald Trump.

“As I suspend my campaign today, I have renewed faith, deeper faith, that the Lord will show me the way forward, and fulfill the purpose of my life.” said the Governor to reporters in Columbus, Ohio

Mr Kasich only won his home state, but had hoped to lobby for his candidacy at July’s Republican convention. Even before winning his home state of Ohio in March, Kasich was facing pressure to get out of the race, with no clear path to victory

He is likely to go up against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, who suffered an unexpected loss during the Indiana primary to Bernie Sanders
