Several significant cases were heard before courts on Wednesday. The Former ASP of the Embilipitiya Police, D.W.C Dharmaratne, has been further remanded until May 18t.
This decision was made when the case pertaining to a brawl, which ensued during a party in Embilipitiya involving the Embilipitiya Police, resulted in the death of a youth, was taken up before the Embilipitiya Additional Magistrate on Wednesday.
The Additional Magistrate stated that the second post-mortem report has been received. The lawyers then pointed out the discrepancy between the first and second report on the investigation of the youth’s death.
The CID informed the magistrate that further measures in relation to the investigation are to be taken based on instructions from the Attorney General. The next hearing is scheduled to take place on May 18.
The Case filed against Former Minister of Mass Media Keheliya Rambukkewella and two others at the Colombo Magistrates Court was postponed to the 9th of September today.
The case was postponed when it was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya as the attorney-at-law representing the former minister failed to appear at the hearing.
The respondents have been charged with allegedly purchasing a stock of G.I. pipes, causing a loss to the Sri Lanka Rupawahini Corporation.
The case filed requesting for an order preventing political activities and activities of trade unions being carried out at the Aayaramaya Viharasthanaye was taken up at the Colombo District Court on Wednesday.
The court ordered the respondents to forward preliminary objections on May 18.
