The committee which probed the altercation which broke out in parliament on Tuesday has recommended to the Speaker that stern action be taken against two parliamentarians involved in the incident.
The incident was probed by a committee headed by the Deputy Speaker.
The altercation took place when Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka was responding to a question raised by Opposition Parliamentarian Dinesh Gunewardena regarding the former president’s security.
The incident left United National Party Parliamentarian Sandith Samarasinghe injured and prompted the speaker to postpone parliamentary sessions for today, while appointing a committee to investigate the altercation.
The committee comprising of Deputy Speaker Thilanga Sumathipala and Deputy Chairman of Committees MP Selvam Adaikkalanathan submitted the report to the Speaker with several recommendations.
Meanwhile MP Sandith Samarasinghe who sustained injuries in Tuesday’s altercation left the National Hospital on Wednesday.
Police recorded a statement from the parliamentarian on the incident this afternoon.
