The Sri Lanka Army states that 84 firearms, possessed illegally by various people, have been handed in to the Army thus far.
Army Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera made a request from persons who possess firearms illegally, to hand them over to the army before the amnesty period comes to an end.
He said that those who continue to possess firearms illegally after the amnesty period comes to an end, will be taken into custody.
Accordingly, the amnesty period which began on April 25 will end on May 6.
