A compartment of the Uttara Devi express train from Kankesanthurai to Colombo derailed on Friday morning.

Our correspondent reported that the compartment had derailed in close proximity to the Saliyapura Railway Station between 08:30 and 09:00 this morning.

Operations on the tracks have been restricted to Anuradhapura. The District Railways Assistant Engineer noted that they hope to restore operations during the course of the day.
