The 22nd anniversary of South Africa’s Freedom Day was commemorated in Colombo on Tuesday April 26.
The event was held under the auspices of the High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa to Sri Lanka Geoff Doidge and also saw the participation of Minister of Parliamentary Reform and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilaka.
High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa to Sri Lanka Geoff Doidge, in his speech, said that the bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and South Africa is at an all time high and they look forward to seeing the success of their intergovernmental relations on the political and diplomatic front being replicated into the economic sphere.
He also said that, in their own experience, this would be an arduous journey towards healing the wounds of a painful past and transforming the state and society into a truly democratic, one adding that they are committed to assist Sri Lanka.
