The Archaeological Department has launched investigations into the incident where the Sigiriya frescoes were damaged allegedly by officials of the Central Cultural Fund.
Director General of the Archaeological Department, Dr. Senarath Dissanayake stated that the investigation was launched following the instructions of Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
Explaining further, he noted that the report of the investigation will be handed over to the Minister in due course.
News1st revealed on Sunday, April 24 that the officers of the Central Cultural fund had damaged the Sigiriya frescoes, while mapping the paintings.
