General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Services Union Mahinda Jayasinghe arrived at the Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division on Monday, April 25.

The gathering of evidence on the financial irregularities surrounding the purchasing of computers for school laboratories, was conducted following a complaint lodged by Mahinda Jayasinghe on the April 11.

General Secretary of the Lanka Teacher services Union, Mahinda Jayasinghe stated that a sum of a sum of Rs.5895 million was obtained to purchase computers for school laboratories through seven cabinet papers during the Rajapaksa Administration between 2013 and 2014.

The audit reports released by the Audit Department and the cabinet papers clearly indicate heavy financial frauds were committed during the purchasing of these computers. Minister of education at the time, Bandula Gunawardena and Mahinda Rajapaksa who were functioning as the Minister of Finance have approved the tender papers or cabinet papers.

Explaining further, he alleged that the Minister Rishad Bathiyutheen was also involved as they have provided an extensive account to the FCID in this regard. It has come to light that a sum of Rs.65 million that was obtained from the contractors of the Mahindodaya Laboratory construction programme, is currently in bank accounts.
