The Ministry of Health says that 40% of schools in the country contain breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Community physician and consultant at the Dengue Eradication Unit, Prashila Samaraweera said that Dengue larvae have been found in 2% of the schools.
The Ministry of Education has ordered that such breeding ground be eradicated through shramadhanas before the term commences.
The Director of the School Health and Nutrition Sector at the Ministry of Education, Renuka Peiris, said that a circular was issued to all principals regarding the eradication of mosquito breeding grounds today.
Fourteen (14) individuals have died from Dengue in 2016 alone, and another 14, 729 are infected with it.
