Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has commended the European Commission’s decision to lift the ban on Sri Lankan fish exports. Issuing a statement, the Prime Minister said that the ban on fish exports was initially imposed due to non-compliance by the previous government towards international agreements and obligations.
However, the statement adds that the new administration’s commitment and accountability towards international and regional standards, agreements and obligations led to the European Commission to lifting the ban on Sri Lankan fish exports.
The Prime Minister pointed that out while an internationally competitive economic atmosphere could be created within Sri Lanka, hundreds of thousands of jobs could be created through this move.
