General Secretary of UPFA, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera met the Chairman of the appeals committee, Ashoka Peiris on Tuesday, April 19, and inquired into to the progress so far on demarcation of boundaries
The Minister noted that their intention is to go for an election after the tasks have been completed and gazetted to the parliament.
When questioned on the nominations list, he noted that they have received 7000 applications – so far as an extremely clean and new group of candidates who have not violated party discipline and are not involved in fraud and corruption – but it does not imply they will remove those who already exist.
Journalists also raised questions on the former president being invited for the May Day Rally of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, he added that he was the first who was invited.
Frontline activists of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party expressed views on the May Day rally at several events today.
Chairman of the SLFP Youth Front, Shantha Bandara stated that no SLFP activist has to be poked and forced to attend the May Day Rally as certain factions have initiated to fulfill aspirations of the UNP by holding secret meetings and conspiracies in order to split the party.
Chief Minister of the Western Province, Isura Devapriya stated that if the party is split in two it is those who sympathize with the UNP; because there are no enemies within the party but only enemies in terms of politics.
Explaining further, he noted that some people are under the influence that the President is under the directive of the Prime Minister. President Sirisena has a backbone to say from his hometown Polonnaruwa that if the VAT causes burdens to the country it would be exempted, and also send home those propose the taxes.
