Police say that statements are being recorded from all officers attached to the Laggala Police Station in Matale with regard to the recent robbery of firearms.
Police say that the two officers who were on duty on the night the firearms went missing, are being subject to extensive inquiries from the Criminal Investigations Department.
Police sniffer dogs who were used for the manhunt had stopped near an abandoned house during the search operation.
The stolen T-56 rifle and 5 revolvers were found near a tank in the premises of a temple in Wallewela in Laggala have been sent to Colombo to obtain fingerprints.
The firearms which were in the police armoury were robbed on New Year’s eve in April
Three police officers who were on duty at the Laggala Police Station that night, have been interdicted while the suspect in connection with the robbery is still at large.
