The state ceremony for the anointing of oil, a tradition followed with the dawn of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, took place on Saturday morning at the Sri Pushparama Temple in Malegoda, Payagala under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
President Maithripala Sirisena, who arrived at the temple engaged in religious observances. At the auspicious time of 10:41 a.m., the president took part in the tradition of anointing oil.
Following this tradition, the President planted a Red Sandalwood sapling at the temple premises.
An Ayurvedic Handbook penned by the Commissioner for Ayurveda ,L.H.Thilakeratne was presented to the President at this occasion.
