Six persons were killed and nine others injured in eight accidents that occurred during the last 24 hours.

A private bus and a three-wheeler crashed head on along the High Level Road close to the Henry Pedris Grounds.

The three-wheeler driver, who was severely injured in the accident, succumbed to his injuries upon admission to the National Hospital.

The private bus had collided head on with the three-wheeler while attempting to overtake another bus, following which a car travelling behind the three-wheeler lost control of the vehicle and collided with the three-wheeler.

Police stated that investigations have revealed that the bus driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

The injured were admitted to the Gampola Teaching Hospital. One person who was in a critical condition, was later transferred to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.

Seventeen individuals had been travelling in the van at the time of the incident. The accident had taken place while they were returning from Galle.
