Elephants ran amok in the in the 6th mile post of Saliyapura, Anuradhaprua on Friday afternoon. Our correspondent stated that two persons were killed after being attacked by the wild elephant.

A 65-year-old came under an attack while he was walking along a road in Theppamkulama Saliyapura. The individual had reportedly died after the incident.

Thereafter, the elephant had headed off to nearby villages through the 6th mile post in Saliyapura. A father had attempted to rescue his two children who were playing in the garden of his house.

The father had the locked the children inside the house and had run about 50 metres before he was caught by the wild elephant. The victim was 55 years old.

The individual was employed as a gate keeper of the 6th mile post level crossing.

Meanwhile, the veterinarian of the Anuradhapura Wildlife Zone Chandana Jayasinghe stated that a team of wildlife officials were dispatched to drive away the wild elephant into the Wilpattu Forest Reserve.
