Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in a message to celebrate the New Year says that all Sri Lankans celebrate the New Year as citizens of a free country, while upholding the strongest democratic principles.
He stated:
“As the New Year dawns, let us remind ourselves that we have challenging, but achievable tasks before us. Let us work towards making a significant economic and social transformation to herald in prosperity for all.”
Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan, in his New Year Message, urged every citizen in the country to uphold national unity by joining hands to strengthen relationships and foster harmony between the different communities during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
He also urges that those who are not so fortunate to celebrate owing to various circumstances, be remembered.
