Vidya Amarapala, Adviser to the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development has resigned from his position following reports that his name was connected to the Panama Papers.
A statement issued by Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka reads that this decision was taken after focussing on the document leak that had led to much controversy.
According to Minister Ranawaka’s statement Vidya Amarapala linked reports are based on the list of names who had off-shore accounts in Singapore, published in 2013 and not with the Panama Papers.
The Minister points out that Vidya Amarapala has no connection to those accounts. However, he has noted that as a government mandated by the people to wipe out fraud and corruption, the adviser to the Ministry decided to resign.
