Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa announced that he will attend the May Day rally of the joint opposition. A group of local politicians from the Southern Province called on Mahinda Rajapaka at the Carlton House in Tangalle on Tuesday, April 12.
As journalists raised questions whether he will be attending the May Day rally in Kirulapone according to Dinesh Gunawardene, the former president noted that he was chairing the occasion where the Joint Opposition had decided to hold a May Day rally.
Nishantha Muthuhettigama, the Deputy Minister of Ports and Shipping also met with Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Carlton House on Tuesday.
News 1st raised the matter with the deputy minister.
As questions were raised whether he will be staying in Galle without going to Colombo, he added that he will remain in Galle to cultivate plantains and also prepare sweets for the New Year.
Questions were also raised whether he has “changed sides,” as he called on Mahinda Rajapaksa. The deputy minister stated that he did not change sides nor did he inform the party of the meeting since there is “nothing to inform the party” because he has been starting the New Year for the past 20 years by having a meeting with Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Another question was raised over the objection due to his attendance at the event, answering the question he noted that he did not attend any event.
