The locals living in the vicinity of the Weera-Padiyana Forest Reserve, Chilaw are living in severe discomfort owing to an illegal timber logging racket that is going on in the forest reserve

According to the locals, more than 200 trees of Teak, Kumbuk and Oak have been logged down by those engaged in the illegal racket. The locals also warned of the risks faced by the Deduru Oya forest reserve, noting that even smaller trees fall prey to the timber racketeers.
The locals also stated that the authorities have been informed of the situation but no solution has been given thus far. The authorities informed by the locals also include the Chilaw Divisional Secretariat and Grama Seva Officer.
