A revelation was made by the Attanagalle Magistrate’s Court where 50 million kilogrammes of imported rice, not suitable for consumption, were found in five storage buildings belonging to Sathosa of the Gampaha District.

This fact came to the limelight when a case for a previous raid, carried out by the Attanagalla Medical Officers of Health, with regard to rice stored in a building in Veyangoda was taken up on Wednesday.

The Gampaha District Food and Drugs inspector stated to courts that the rice stocks were stored in the Sathosa stores in Veyangoda, Ekala, Wattala, Biyagama and Pethiyagoda.

The Attanagala Magistrate ordered that a report be produced on the suitability of rice stored in the Veyangoda storage facility to be used in the production of animal food.
