A conference under the theme Let’s wipe out disappearances was held in Akkaraipattu on Wednesday.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mangala Samaraweera stated that by this May or June, the relevant laws required for the establishment of a Special Commission on Truth will be tabled to the parliament.
He went on to explain that discussions are currently ongoing with the relevant authorities of South Africa, in order to seek the truth on the disappearance of the children of this country and also for the establishment of an Office on Missing Persons with the assistance of the ICRC, to ensure non-recurrence of disappearances.
“We will do everything in our capacity to find every child we can find, and to reveal the names of the children we could not find and inform you what happened to these children, and other missing persons, and provide reparation in areas that we could. And above all there will be no room left for a recurrence of disappearances in this country “, said the Minster
