A seminar on Sri Lanka – China relations themed Challenges and way forward was  held in Colombo on Thursday, March 31. The event was organised by the Bandaranaike Centre For International Studies.

Minister of Special Assignments, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, addressing the event, noted that what has happened in Sri Lanka is the exact opposite of what happened in China, even in the worst of times.

He went on to point out that when the state-owned enterprises were giving their surplus to the state so that they could invest in infrastructure, in Sri Lanka it has always been the other side.

He added that where the hard-earned tax money has to be handed over to this state-owned enterprises, and of late , have created the worst of such state-owned enterprises called SriLankan Airlines, which is a bottomless pit because it owes one billion US Dollars and every flight employs 360 workers.

He charged:

If you look at  one of the worst-managed state enterprises in the whole history of the world economy, Sri Lankan airlines will be in the top 10.
