Arrests made over thefts in Balangoda and Bandarawela

Four suspects who were charged with the theft of goods including jewellery and gems, from a number a of shops and houses in Balangoda, have been remanded until April 5.

The order of remand was issued when the suspects were produced before the Balangoda Magistrate.

Ten suspects who were charged with aiding and abetting the theft were released on a bail of Rs.100,000 each.

The police state that the suspects have been committing the crimes since December last year.

While 4 individuals were involved in the robbery, investigations reveal that six others had aided the wrong-doing.

Four students who were involved in the stealing of a bag belonging to a  foreign national have been arrested at the Bandarawela train station.

Police stated that the students who are residents of Hali-Ela were taken into custody on Wednesday evening. The suspects aged between 14 and 15 years are to be produced before courts on Thursday.
