The Sri Lanka Freedom Party convened a media briefing on Wednesday, March 30.

SLFP Media Spokesperson, Minister Dilan Perera, speaking at the press said it is evident that none of the SLFP speakers criticizsed President Maithripala Sirisena, and they only criticised the United National Party during the Hyde Park rally.

He noted that the UNP government at some areas must be criticised, therefore the SLFP MPs who attended the Hyde Party rally followed the party code of conduct. He also stressed that the time is ripe enough for Mahinda Amaraweera, Welgama, Dilan and Aluthgamage to take responsibility of the party (SLFP).
Minister Dilan Perera commented on the former leaders of the party. He noted:

President Maithripala Sirisena defeated Mahinda Rajapaksa. There is an attempt to resolve that personal rift. In reality, what should happen is, instead of them using the SLFP as a tool to justify their personal grievances, they should pay respect to the SLFP, for all they have received from it …”

Meanwhile, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva was questioned as to whether he would join with the United National Party.

He noted that he had never given any thoughts or dreamt of joining the UNP. He also said:

My political career is over 35 years,  and I will die while with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. If I am not pleased of politics as a SLPFer, I would go home and never go to the UNP …”
