At a media briefing held Wednesday March 30, the Secretary of Defence elaborated on national security.
Secretary of Defence, Karunasena Hettiarachchi stated that issues have arisen over several lands as some have not been returned to their original owners. He stated that a programme is also in place by security forces to protect economic centres in the country.
Explaining further, he added that, around 3700 lands in the Jaffna District were released and handed over in a manner that would not undermine national security
The secretary also noted that even though there aren’t any high security zones, signs indicate these zones are still in place. Police and the Intelligence Service along with the three armed forces are also aware of the matter therefore only the land mass required for security is considered.
The Secretary, commenting on ISIS, noted that the government is capable of handling the security. According to reports, family members, relatives and friends of those connected to ISIS are in Sri Lanka, but they have not received a report that ISIS members are in the country.
