The National Council for Road Safety says that laws will be formulated to prohibit the use of mobile phones while driving. Chairman of the Council Dr. Sisira Kodagoda said that a large number of accidents can be attributed to the use of mobile phones while driving.
He added that the decision to formulate the new laws was taken following a meeting held with a council of lawyers yesterday.Dr. Sisira Kodagoda also said they expect to make a request from the Supreme Court to update laws on speed limits.
He added that discussions were held with a group of lawyers on Monday on the decisions made during a conference held previously to revise road rules of the country. He added that a final decision on the matter will be reached by the end of next week.
