Water levels in a large number of reservoirs have receded as a result of the Central Hills of the country not receiving adequate rain.

The Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority said that the water level of the Victoria Reservoir had dropped by about 50 percent and that the water level of the Kotmale reservoir has dropped to 25 percent of its capacity.

The Mahaweli Authority added that the water levels of Castelreah, Mousekelle, and Samanala-wewa reserviors are also rapidly receding.

The Director of the Water Management Unit of the iIrigation Department, Mohan Raja, said that the water levels of the reservoirs of their Department are at 80 to 85 percent capacity.
