A rally organised by the UNP was held in Colombo on Tuesday afternoon. The rally commenced with a procession, held under the theme, Let’s Protect the Victory. The march commenced opposite the Nelum Pokuna theatre around 3 p.m.

The march then reached Lipton Circus. Although it was initially planned to hold the rally at Hyde Park following the procession, the rally was held at Lipton Circus. UNP Leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe remained with party supporters and did not ascend the main stage.

Deputy Leader of UNP, Minister Sajith Premadasa stated that those from the Rajapaksa regime who stole from the country, are now attempting to raise a public force, calling themselves the joint opposition.

He added that under Good Governance they are implementing a historic scheme to build houses for the people, like never before in the country.

He further noted that in a few months, the building of apartment complexes will commence for people living in Colombo and surrounding areas

Leader of the Democratic Party, Minister Sarath Fonseka stated that they wish to drag the country into crevasse as before, by attempting to pump some petrol and oxygen on the 17th.

He added that “they deceived the people, by showing false development.”

State Minister of International Trade, Sujeewa Senasinghe stated that Narendra Modi and John Kerry visited the country and made a promise to extend their fullest co-operation to the development of Sri Lanka, and to make Sri Lanka one of the most powerful countries in Asia.

Explaining further, he noted that he is asking them whether he demolished homes; “but they did not simply demolish, they swallowed up homes.”
