Three people have been killed in a fire that broke out in a fireworks factory in Kimbulapitiya, Negombo.
An explosion had occurred in one of the seven rooms in the factory. Three employees working at the location were killed. While the cause of the explosion has not been ascertained, residents say the extreme temperatures being experienced at the time may have caused the accident.
The owner of the factory, a woman, has been hospitalised due to shock. Police say that they did not see necessary safety equipment or standards at the factory. The bodies of the three victims are currently lying at the Negombo Base Hospital.
The three young men, all in their twenties, were residents of Passara, Mattakkuliya and Badulla.
