Body of Sumith Prasanna Jayawardene exhumed following confrontation

Officials exhumed the body of Sumith Prasanna Jayawardene, who died from his injuries following a confrontation with the Embilipitiya Police.

The body was exhumed as per the orders issued by the Embilipitiya Magistrate’s Court. The body of Sumith Prassanna who died on January 4 was exhumed before the Embilipitiya Magistrate Prassanna Fernando.

Three juducial medical officers including the cheif Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo, Ajith Tennakoon, the mother, brother and
the aunt of late Sumith Prasanna were present for the exhumation. Subsequent to the exhumation, the JMOs had also inspected the location the incident took place, the Mendis Building in Embilipitiya.

Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo, Ajith Tennakoon stated that he and two more specialists doctors are planning to carry out another post mortem examination through their panel by studying reports of the previous post mortem examinations, and photgraphs taken at the location in order to provide a comprehensive report containing answers to the issues raised by court.

Certain body parts buried at a different location by the funeral parlour were also taken to the custody of the judicial medical officers.
