The Department of Labour says that an extensive survey will be carried out to search for workplaces that employ underage children.

Commissioner General of Labour, Chandani Amaratunge said that the survey will be carried out under the supervision of the district secretaries.

The Department of Labour identified 51 fields of employment that children between the age of 14 and 18 cannot be employed at. This state was identified through the revised draft regarding the employment of women and children. Accordingly, the Commissioner General noted that punishments would be meted out to those who violate this law.

The District Labour Office or the Labour Department can be reached on 011-2-369-800  to lodge complaints  in this regard.
