Final rites of Asgiri Chapter Chief Prelate to be held today

The final rites of late Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Chapter Most Venerable Galagama Sri Attadassi thera will be carried out on Sunday, under full state honours at the Asgiriya police grounds.

The mortal remains of the late Mahanayake currently rests at the Upali Thera Memorial Hall, for the public to pay their last respects. Minister of Buddha Sasana Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa, said that today, Sunday March 13, is a national day of mourning in honour of the Late Mahanayake.

A special traffic plan is in place for Kandy today due to the cremation ceremony of the late Mahanayake. Chief Minister of Central Province Sarath Ekanayake said that the special traffic plan will come into effect from 01 p.m. today.

Meanwhile, the Government Information Department says that all liquor stores across the country would be closed on Sunday, March 13.
