Convening a media briefing, the Joint Opposition commented on the latest tax revisions announced by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Parliament on Tuesday, March 8.
UPFA parliamentarian, Bandula Gunewardena stated that for first time in history of the country, the Finance Minister of the government presents two different budgets within a period of one year.
He added that the reserves which were at 8.2 percent was reduced to 7.3 percent, and went on to note that the Prime Minister changed the budget document to resolve the greatest financial crisis caused in the country’s recent history.
Former Minister, Prof. G.L. Peiris stated that the budget document is being changed amidst a major crisis. He added that this is the seventh time the Prime Minister has made a statement in parliament on the economy of Sri Lanka, as the budget document has technically become a magazine.
