UPFA parliamentarian Dinesh Gunawardena, addressing a media briefing in Colombo on Sunday, noted that the country is facing a severe financial crisis.
The parliamentarian stated that a new cabinet paper had been put forward recently, calling for the implementation of new taxes, and the reduction of state-sponsored welfare.
Dinesh Gunawardena reiterated his call for a debate in this regard in parliament, noting that the opposition has been requesting a debate in this regard for the past two months.
He also noted that the opposition’s queries on the IMF loan amounting to US$ one billion are yet to be answered by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance.
