Leader of the Opposition, Anura Kumara Dissanayake charged that the Indian Government is forcing Sri Lanka to implement an economic plan.
He stated that from 2003, following the discussions they said that the Good Market will be opened to services and goods but some say that it is already open and Indians are now working in hotels and construction sites.
“Why do you need a new agreement?” questioned the leader of the opposition, who pointed out that there are foreign nationals working in Ampara and that there are Chinese and Korean nationals working here as well.
He went on to explain that the new agreement is to ease all the restrictions. He said that at first they attempted to open this and now they say that doctors will not be allowed to come because it will be a disadvantage
He added that ‘engineering’ was also removed from the agreement and so were accountants and that the bovernment must elaborate why these sections were removed.
