Investigations have commenced, under the supervision of an assistant superintendent of prisons, into the incident where an allegedly notorious underworld figure, Chaminda Jayanath alias Dematagoda Chaminda was shot on the evening of March 2.
Commissioner General of Prisons Nishath Danasinghe said that measures are being taken to discuss with the police to find out “a more safer way of transporting prisoners.”
Meanwhile, the investigations have been handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division.
A high-ranking police officer in Colombo said that police had opened fire at the suspects who fled the area after shooting at the prisoners’ bus transporting the suspect in question, Chaminda Jayanath.
Police say that it has been verified that the blood stains found on the tracks are those of the suspects who fled the scene after opening fire at the bus.
Police have thereafter commenced a manhunt for the suspects who are at large.
