Police have decided to take legal action against three-wheeler drivers who transport more than four persons at a time.
DIG Amarasiri Senaratne of the Motor Traffic and Road Safety said that transporting of large number of people would lead to the vehicle losing control.
A three-wheeler with seven persons travelling on it met with an accident in Bandaragama on Monday afternoon.
Four individuals died in the accident that occurred along the Bandaragama -Kesbewa road on Monday afternoon.
Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the accident occurred when a three-wheeler crashed into a lorry.
Four of the deceased were children. Three others who sustained injuries following the accident have been admitted to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital.
Meanwhile, DIG of Traffic Amarasiri Senaratne said that 207 persons were killed in accidents involving three-wheelers, during the course of last year. This number includes 23 children.
