The local government representatives of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party who were recipients of letters on disciplinary action, convened a media briefing in Thalangama on Saturday.

Former Mayor of Maharagama, Kanthi Kodikara stated that “things would have been different if the party had worked with UNP during the elections.”

“We are SLFP-ers,” she said and questioned as to whether it is a violation of discipline to work towards the victory of the leader put forward by the SLFP?

Chairman of the Borelasgamuwa Urban Council, Aruna Priyashantha noted that “tomorrow is the 14th, where all those who are against these unlawful actions will converge at a location in Kochchikade with Mahinda and make requests from Mahinda Rajapaksa to come forward to create a political party and provide it with the leadership.”

“We have clearly showcased our objection in the following manner,” he said.

Former Chairman of the Walallawita Pradeshiya Sabha,Udeni Athukorala stated that the government elections will be contested under a separate alliance which will bear the symbol of the Shawl, and under that leadership.

“We did not do anything that violates the discipline,” she said and added that it needs to be the responsibility of the General Secretary of the Party to determine whether it was right and wrong.
