State Defence Minister speaks at Saliyapura event

State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene, speaking at an event in Anuradhapura to present the Virusara Privilege Cards on Saturday, commented on national security.

The second phase of the distribution of Virusaru Privilege Cards commenced at the Gajaba Regiment premises in Saliyapura, Anuradhapura. The chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Anoma Fonseka and others attended the event.

State Minister of Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene added that there are rumours and allegations being made in the recent days that national security has been gravely affected and they speak of the removal of the Sampur Navy Base.

The State Minster of Defence explained that Sampur Navy Base will be moved to a nearby location and provided with more facilities to the Navy. The Minister stated that no one will be allowed to make any influence on national security.

“We are working towards protecting the unity of the country”, he said

“There is another group in Kandy organising themselves and spreading various propaganda against us”, said the Chairperson of the Ranawiru Seva Authority, Anoma Fonseka, who further added that “this group is saying that they will lose the pension after 55. But these are false rumours.”

She added that “There is false information being spread all around, and there are different organizations being created but do not be fooled by them because military personnel are special individuals”.

“You are strong and we are here for you”, she said.
