Politicians representing the Opposition engaged in a religious ritual at the Singakkuliya Aiyyanayake Maha Devalaya in Dankotuwa on Saturday. The group that arrived at the Devalaya first made offerings to the gods. Thereafter, the politicians from the opposition smashed coconuts.

UPFA MP, andula Gunwardena stated that this was done in order to obtain blessings to create a better tomorrow and a better country

UPFA MP Salinda Dissanayake stated that there were persons who were loyal to the nation and those against it – even in history and when the imperialists invaded the country there were those who supported the colonisers and those against them.

“This is the only place where we can go to seek the assistance of the gods” charged UPFA MP Kumara Welgama. He further noted that the gods have been asked to eradicate the politics marred with jealousy, and bring peace to the country for a better tomorrow.
