The following is a report from Embilipitya, where a student who was placed 09th in the Scholarship Examination had lost his memory following a motor accident.

A felicitation ceremony was held at the President’s College in Embilipitiya for students who obtained high marks in the Grade five scholarship examination. Shaseen Kavindu Nethmina who obtained 188 marks for the exam in August 2015 was one such student.

The van Shaseen was travelling in when returning home after the ceremony collided with a private bus. Shaseen who sustained injuries to the head recovered after receiving medication from the Ratnapura General Hospital and the National Hospital in Colombo.

However, the recovery lasted for only a few days. Shasheen who had passed the Grade Five Scholarship Examination with flying colours does not remember anything at present.

Doctors say that he is suffering from amnesia due to the internal injuries in his head.

Shaseen’s destiny brought him down to the medical bed after completing the initial step in his education. He cannot do anything else other than open his eyes. A situation has arisen where the parents can no longer bear the costs for the child’s medication.

The father of the child lamented the plight they face stating that there is no way to engage in work as he has to go the hospital with the victim.He also has another child who need to be taken care of.
