The German government would render its complete assistance to Sri Lanka in its future journey in ensuring democracy and reconciliation, says German President Joachim Gauck
President Maithripala Sirisena met his German counterpart at the Palace Bellevue, Berlin on Wednesday February 17, where the two leaders held discussions on bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the discussion President Maithripala Sirisena had commended the assistance given by the Government of Germany for the development of Sri Lanka.
While in Germany, President Sirisena met with a group of Sri Lankan expatriates living in the country. President also met with the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Dr. Gerd Müller yesterday. Following the meeting, a Joint Declaration on Development Cooperation was signed between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Minister Dr. Gerd Müller and Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama. The agreement reads that Germany intends to grant 14 million Euros to Sri Lanka, as development cooperation assistance.
Meanwhile, three more bilateral agreements were signed between the two foreign ministers of Sri Lanka and Germany.
Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding with Heidelberg University on the creation of the Sri Lanka Chair at the South Asia Institute, was signed between the two countries.
