The Central Environmental Authority has said that the petrol station in Akuressa is to be relocated following the oil leak into the Nilwala River.
Director General, K.H. Muthukudaarachchi stated that they were directed to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, upon recommendation.
He added that the damage done to the environment surrounding the Nilwala River is currently being assessed.
The Director General noted that the inspection is underway by the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency, together with the Marine Environment Protection Authority.
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has incurred a loss of nine million rupees as a result of this oil spill. The aforementioned board says that they are seeking legal action in order to recover the loss.
