Harry Potter series will add an 8th book titled ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’. The book will be set 19 years after one of magical history’s deadliest encounters depicted in the last book in the series ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Harry Potter and the Cursed child will be making it’s debut as a play on the 30th of July in London while according to Pottermore, J.K. Rowling’s official publisher of everything Harry Potter, announced that the script of the play will also be released in book form on July 31.
Cursed Child was written by Jack Thorne and is based on a story by Thorne, John Tiffany, and Rowling and unlike its prequels the story will be set as a play and not a strictly narrative book like its predecessors but Pottermore notes that it will be considered Harry Potter canon (i.e., an official part of Rowling’s established universe).
The Cursed Child, will also deviate from its earlier plot style and take a more adult-like take on the trials and tribulations of Harry Potter, who “an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.”
As Pottermore describes, “While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted.”
