Forty three Sri Lankans who fled to India as refugees will return to the country today, Tuesday, February 9.
V. Sivagnanasothy, Secretary of the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Resettlement said that such individuals who sought refuge in camps and in the homes of relatives in India will return to the country today.
The arrival of the Sri Lankan nationals will be facilitated by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees office in Colombo.
The Sri Lankan nationals are residents of Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, Mannar and Trincomalee. The Secretary further noted that the Sri Lankan nationals will be provided with dry rations for a period of six months since their arrival.
Meanwhile, close to 100, 000 Sri Lankan nationals are living as refugees in India of which 64,000 are being sheltered in refugee camps, while 109 persons are found to be living with their relatives.
