Six hundred and six (606) prisoners were given presidential pardon in line with the 68th Independence Day.
Prisons Media Spokesperson Thushara Upuldeniya said the prisoners were are slated to be freed on Thursday February 4, will be those who have committed minor offences and are unable to the fines.
According to the Prisons Media Spokesperson, thirteen (13) female inmates were among those who were released today.
A majority of the prisoners amounting to 67, were released from the Matara Prison.
Thushara Upuldeniya added that 59 inmates each were released from the Kalutara and Kuruwita prisons while 56 inmates were released from the Welikada Prison.
