There is enough evidence to keep SL Sniper in custody: Maldivian Minster of Legal Affairs

A media briefing was held  by a high-level Maldivian delegation at the BMICH in Colombo on Friday where journalists questioned the Minister of Legal Affairs of Maldives, regarding the alleged Sri Lankan sniper who was arrested in Maldives.

Maldives Minister of Legal Affairs ,Uza Azima Shakoor noted that there is Sri Lankan who is under investigation in regard to the incident and he is given access to lawyers and has regular consular visits as well. He further stated:

“The case is still under investigation. So, I would not be able to tell you much of the details,” he said and added “There is enough evidence to keep him in custody and he is being regularly presented to court to extend his detention as well.”

Reports of the Sri Lankan sniper’s , identified as 24-year-old Lahiru Madhushanka, came a day after Maldivian security forces confiscated assault rifles and hand guns, in what has been the biggest weapons bust in the country’s history. The weapons had been seized from Hibilhadhoo island in Baa Atoll –  developed as a resort.
