Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe made clarifications over the statements made to parliament with regard to the media stating that there were no threat made to journalists.

“I named Sisira Jayakody. Do we not have the right to know who is involved?” he charged and went on to note that some call for the right to information act and after that act is brought there will be more calls for information and anyone can be named.

” I am aware how far the Island Newspaper had dropped” he said and added that what was mentioned here was the views that come from the media and from the politicians.

He added that there is an upper-class among the media like the Maha Brahma who had the chosen ones. And this upper-class does not understand that they have become the lower-class and they are here among the media but those who struggled for media freedom are among them.

“If the newspapers can name an MPs, why can’t we name a journalist?” questioned the premier and further added that there is no need for an upper class that went on the hunt with the Maha Brahma and had associations with him.
