Secretary to the Cabinet, Sumith Abeysinghe arrived at the Presidential Commission of inquiry to elaborate on the decisions and decision-making process of the cabinet of ministers. As a notified party to the investigations, former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa also arrived at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Serious Acts of Fraud and Corruption.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa who arrived at the Commission this morning was present for around seven hours.
The former defence secretary, Gotabaya Rajapaksa noted that what is being done is unjust because the rogues have not been brought up and those who can serve politically while in the civil society called for the rogues to be nabbed.
He added that they did not nab the real rogues, but have brought the person who can be used politically. He pointed out that some of the rogues have turned into state witness, while some have been given state power but that they have not been brought here.
He also stated that certain individuals were rogues before, and even now. He said that a month before presidential elections,Venerable Sobitha Thero had said that a majority in the foreign service are outsiders and that this had a negative impact and persons from the foreign service need to be appointed.
The former defense secretary brought up examples of past appointments naming Wasantha Karannagoda, Thisara Samarasinghe, Jayalath Weerakkody, Nanda Mallavarachchi and Sudarshana Senevirate – who are not political persons but justified their appointments since they rendered a great service and are professionals .
