The Ministry of Health has decided to temporarily suspend kidney surgeries conducted on foreign nationals in private hospitals.
Dr. Kanthi Ariyarathne, Secretary of the Private Health Services Regulatory Council said that the decision was reached based on media reports of a kidney transplant-related scandal.
She added that as a result, 29 applications requesting for permission on kidney transplants, forwarded by private hospitals have been held back.
